COSSACKS ATTACK SOVIET UNION, 15,000 DEAD

By now the human race is used to the barbarisms and cruelties of war. Piles of rubble where houses once stood, children crying in the streets, accompanied by the distant sound of artillery shells whizzing through the sky. But war is made all the more grotesque whenever the Russians have anything to do with it. I have seen with my own eyes what happens when a Russian takes on one of his countrymen. On August 1 Andrei Shkuro, the leader of the Cossack’s ‘White Army’, launched a surprise attack against the Soviets. His plan was to rile up support against the Bolsheviks and establish strong support within Russia’s western provinces. Until recently the Cossacks had been licking their wounds in Europe under the protection of the Alliance. However we have learnt that there were indeed plans to turn the Cossacks over, so as to maintain the ceasefire for just a while longer.
